varney frame

Hello All I have a metal f7a varney frame that broke in half is ther any to fix it. It will be usde as a dummy with a plastic shell . thanks frank[:(!]

Epoxy and clamp it in a jig to dry. When they start to deteriorate, they will often continue until a pile of parts is all that remain

Hello all thanks for the tip.it worked fine. what can i use so it wont deteriorate so fast or at all i have 8 old metal trains and would like to make last as long as i can thanks frank

Frank - From the sound of things, your model(s) is suffering from zamac rot, also known as zamac pest, and there really is nothing you can do to slow or halt it. The problem results from impurities in the original composition of the zamac. In time, the model simply crumbles, as has already been pointed out. Since it’s an internal process, sealing or treating the frame chemically in any way won’t help. The only advice that can be offered to lengthen the model’s life is to place it on a display shelf or cabinet and avoid any physical contact with it. In time, just picking it up will cause it to come appart.
