Varney SW1200 lives again!!!!!!!!

Hello all,

Last week , I took a very sick and dead varney locomotive to a local train repair guy. I watched as he took the 45 year old locomotive and prepared it for corrective surgery.

His work bench looked like a triage scene…a war zone if you will. With in a few minutes ,he he found the problem…the trailing truck was backwards. He gave locomotive a good cleaning and tested her running gear.

Locomotive is now back in service and still running strong on her pittman motor…45 years after crapping the bed.

Gents they don’t build them like they use too.Maybe this locomotive will run another 45…who knows

My old Varney F3 could pull just about any load I put behind it. Not up to snuff for detail or accuracy (the wheelbase for the trucks was shorter than scale) but the motor was huge and being all metal, it was a great hauler. Alas key castings in the trucks and drive train started to deteriorate so the engine was retired. But with luck your Varney switcher will keep going.
Maybe it is just me but metal looks more like metal, just like wood looks more like wood, good as the modern plastic castings are.
