vector plates

There was an article in MR by a British author that described how to build a vector plate for switching tracks out of a staging yard and I can’t find the article. Does anyone out there remember which issue it was in? I did a search in MR’s index but couldn’t come up with anything. Any help would be welcomed. Thanks

Strider, I could be wrong, but my addled mind tells me the correct name is “sector” plate. Perhaps that change will induce others to chime in with some links or verbal help…?

Maybe this will get you going.

Yes, the device is called a ‘sector plate’ that’s probably why the index wasn’t helping. I didn’t look at the site Selector posted, but for any sort of moveable piece like that I’d be tempted to build it solid and then after it was built cut the gap to free up the moving part. In my mind that would keep things aligned better. Same with liftouts and moveable sections across doorways.

selector and rrinker, thanks for the help, your minds are just fine, It’s mine thats seems to be addled. Thanks again, I’m going to do that search again, hopefully with the right word this time.

I think the article you are looking for is by Paul Dolkos called “No Space is No Excuse.” It was in the 1996 issue of Model Railroad Planning. It covered several British ideas for staging yards including sector plates.

I think Dolkos might have written up similar ideas for MR itself, and more recently, but it is the MRP article that comes to mind. Also I think Iain Rice has written stuff on sector plates, since he is a British layout designer. I suggest you search the Index under Dolkos and Rice.
