Just returned from Hobby Lobby - needed some paint. Boley and Mini-Metals vehicles for $2.66 each. Came back with six 60’s eras cars (that’s all they had). Wish I modeled in the 80’s as they had about 100 Boley trucks for the same price!
As the prices are marked “clearance” it seems that this might be applicable only to my local store, but I thought I would post it in case it is a nationwide thing. Hope it helps.
This is probably a result of General Motors’ decision to not allow 1:87 or smaller models of their cars to be made by anyone. Someone in the GM legal department has apparently over-reacted to the possibility of “choking hazard” lawsuits against GM if a child swallows an HO scale or N scale model of a GM product, so they have decided to cancel all licensing agreements as a precaution. Mini-Metals and other model manufacturers have probably ordered their dealers to clear out all existing stocks to keep GM off of their case.
I’m not possative about this, but I think GM has decided to put out it’s own line of HO stuff. That’s why the Boley stuff is on sale. I don’t think GM is liscencing other companies to make their stuff anymore. Either way, those cars are a great deal.Wish I had more cash on me when I saw them. Look for the John Deere HO tractors at Wal-Mart. Half the price of what Walthers wants for the same thing.($2.49)
I’m not real sure what is going on right now, but all my suppliers are blowing out Boley. If General Motors is going to come out with their own line of HO scale vehicles, I hope they build them better than their 1:1 scale stuff! [:p]
