Vehicles

ive decided on an lgb mts starter set, ive been trying to decide what scale vehicles i need , im thinking 1/24 scale, can anyone suggest a retailer of these vehicles and have i got the scale right ,
these forums are great by the way im a complete novice and have already gleaned loads of help and info , thanks for all your help
regards Neil

Burago make a range in 1/24th mostly modern vehicles .Some platic model kits can be found in a similar scale. A company called IXO make motorcycles .LGB make some vehicles as do a few of the german manufacturers

There are loads of 1:24 scale cars and trucks available in both diecast and plastic kits. Almost any retailer will have such models in the toy section. Also check the dedicated toy stores like toys-r-us, etc.

The real problem is finding 1:20 scale vehicles, besides Hubley.

I have found a ton of 1/24 cars and trucks at Mom & Pop gas stations also if yourwife likes you you can leave a catalog out with marked pages. That trick got me 2 fire trucks and two tow trucks and a milk truck and a 1932 ford coupe all 1/24[:D]

David,

You’re a lucky man indeed. When I tried that trick all I got was yelled at for leaving my junk laying around.

If in the USA, many stores carry 1/24.

You should put your country in your profile, I assumed UK.

Neil, I recently tried to compile a list of vehicle manufacturers. I stopped once it reached around 40! There are lots o’ vehicles out there in many scales. If you’d like to see a good variety of brands, check diecastdirect.com. Otherwise, going to number of retail stores such as Walmart, Toys R Us, Kmart, etc. will give you more choices, often inexpensively.

LGB’s scale varies a bit around 1/22 to 1/24 for the narrow gauge stuff so 1/24 or 1/25 are going to be best. Try looking at diecast car magazines you’ll find quite a few people selling all sorts of periods and countries prototypes.
There are at least two specialist Diecast magazines in WHSmiths in the UK so there must be more in the US.
http://www.suffolkdiecast.co.uk/pages/construction2.lasso?scale=25&count=6 look on this site there are 1/25 scale models in some categories, it’ll suggest some manufacturers if nothing else.
BY the way take a G scale figure with you to toys R us and you’ll be pleasantly suprised how many cheap vehicles are just right or easy to convert to ‘scale’. I’ve got 1/12 and 1/14 Rc construction vehicles adapted to 1/24 by altering seats and controls in the cab as the real machines come in such a variety of sizes.

I use 1/24 scale vehicles and they look great with LGB scale trains (1/22.5). Here is an excellent website that has many vehicles and best of all, pictures:

eBay is also a good place to see pictures of what is available.
