Vendors

I’m looking to purchase a few of the “tools of the trade” for MR’ing. I get a catalog from Model-Expo and saw a few items in there I need/want. Just wondering about the quality of their items and if anyone has some favorite vendors for quality/reasonably priced tools for the hobby. Thanks.

Hi!

I have had no dealings with Model Expo, BUT have had many, many purchases from Micromart. Micromart is owned by an MR, and just about every modeling tool you could imagine is in their inventory. I have NEVER had a problem with them, and have easily many hundreds of dollars with them over the last several years.

I recommend Micro-mark. Expo is OK too. Also you can pickup things at Harbor Freight. And be sure to watch E-bay. BILL

I just placed my order with MicroMart. Just had a better feeling going with them vs. Model-Expo. Like the fact the owner is a MR guy. Looking forward to getting the “stuff”. Thanks for the suggestion.

Hey, lets get it straight - it’s MICRO-MARK and not Micromart or whatever. And where did the notion that MR owns MICRO-MARK? First I’ve ever heard of that.

Check them out here: http://www.micromark.com/ They have probably most things a model railroad hobbyist would want. Great specials at times too.

I think the person that mentioned MR owning MicroMark meant a model railroader owns the company, not the magazine.

I have bought a fair amount of stuff from MicroMark over the years and have not had a problem. If you shop around, you can find the same tools elsewhere at a lower price. They also have a sliding scale on shipping costs, the more you spend the more shipping costs. They are offering free shipping on orders over $100 until June 9.

Comparing Micro-Mark to Model-Expo, I would give Micro-Mark the nod when it comes to variety, and the fact that the owner is, as pointed out, a model railroader, there are more things that relate to model railroading, whereas Model-Expo is skewed towards ship building. However, what I have ordered from Model-Expo has been of decent quality and fairly priced.
