Hi,
Is there a model (RTR or kit) in HO that is of a steel underframe wood sheathed ventalated box car with double sheathing?
I am wanting to model a box car used in Georgia on the Gainesville Midland. By the 1950’s, the ventalated door was gone but the door tracks were stiull in place and an extra stop added for the remaining door.
The Accurail 4600 box car is close to the photo I have but the door tracks are not right.
Thanks.
Doug
Doug,
Rio Grande Models has a kit of the V&T ventilated wood boxcar. It is posible that it could be modified to suit your needs. I have two of these on my workbench to build. They are my next project. RGM kits are just this side of scratch building (think castings, strip wood - bending your own grabs…etc). They have laser cut sides and wood parts that build up quite nicely. The kits make great models but they take experience and patience to get them built. They have a web site, google em’

Both Funaro & Carmelengo and Westerfield make 40’ long double sheath ventilated boxcars, and ex-ventilated boxcars that have been “modernized” into standard boxes. These are all resin kits, and at least the F&C kits come with one-piece bodies, making assembly easier.
Westerfield kits:
6301 - FEC (USRA)
6302 - FDEC (USRA)
7001 thru 7006 - ACL (USRA CLONE)
F&C KITS:
6400 - FEC (USRA)
6401 - FEC (MODERNIZED USRA)
6410 - FEC (1924 ARA)
6411 - FEC (1924 ARA, MODERNIZED)
6412 - S&A (1924 ARA, MODERNIZED)
