Verifying an ebay error

With the size of the tender and some conspicuous pilot and trailing trucks, this looks like a 4-8-4, not a 2-8-2. I just wanted to send the seller the correct info. Am I off-base?

From the description, looks like the seller:

  1. Isn’t that knowledgable about trains
  2. Wants to unload this locomotive badly

Tom

It’s a 4-8-4… I have one just like it… Go ahead and send the seller an email. Can’t hurt…

Jeff

Thanks, Jeff…[:)]

If you read further down the add, you will see a correction submitted by the seller. Ebay adds cannot be edited like this forum, but the sellor can add in comments that clarify or corect the original add.

Tom,

I would send a friendly email. But as Leon has posted, the seller made a correction. Given that the seller seems like an honest fellow (he notes that the engine runs badly) I’m sure he would have appreciated the information.

Dave

Leon & Dave,

The correction is due to the e-mail that I sent the seller last night. That correction was NOT there before this morning.

The seller did e-mail me a reply thanking me for the correction. Although, when I pointed out that the trailing truck was missing 2 wheels, his reply was sort a strange:

“I know wheel arrangements. It was a typographical error.
The rear truck is complete. Thanks, Bob”

Well…no…the rear truck is still missing 2 wheels.

Anyhow, at least the ad is more correct now.

Tom

well that person did say it runs badly as it should with missing two wheels

Before jumping down his throat too much, take another look at the picture more closely. It is not easy to see but I believe that both of the trailing truck axles are there. It is very hard to pick out from that angle and from the white background, but if you look closely you can see the top edge of the rear axle, easy mistake to make.
Randy

Yes Randy you are right and so is the seller, not easy to see though.

Alls well that ends well. Tom, you did good!

Randy,

Thanks. I noticed the leading truck wheel hiding behind the front piston. But, you’re right, the top of the wheel flange is just visible above the rear truck.

Tom

There is nothing the matter with communicating any questions or issues with a seller on Ebay. If they are worth any salt, they will do what it takes to make it right. Now if only the title can be edited.
