Wow, it will be nice to see the train passing me as I run up the highway, instead of me passing it. Progress, although it is slow progress…
They should look into upgrading this track to 90 mph running.

59 to 79 mph - Only South of White River Jct. I understand. Back in 1976, I had the good fortune of a roundtrip cab ride onboard the Montrealer from WRJ to Waterbury, VT. Back then, the limit was 59 as it is now with the upgrade. The primary beneficiary of the Federal funds is not for passenger, but freight capacity with higher weight limits as I see it.
When and where are the added segments to complete a Boston to Montreal line?
It is certainly a pleasure to ride the Vermonter on the newly rebuilt right of way. My concern is that with increased speeds, and the many unprotected grade crossings (many farm crossings and others with only a crossbuck) will anything be done to improve the safety at these locations. The Vermonter has already had its share of incidents with vehicles at these locations.
This project is far from complete. We need restoration of Amtrak service St. Albans, VT - Montreal, QC, without ICE-caused bureaucratic delays at the border.
New England Central was owned by Rail America. As the article correctly states, RA has been acquired by G&W.
Massachusetts conn river line is next.
This is great. We plan on taking the train to St Albans and stay at a B&B. We did this last year by car during the fall color season. Looking forward to it. Also, St Albans has a still standing roundhouse!
To answer the question about a Boston-Montreal train, it is possible to do so by utilizing the connecting track at Palmer, MA that the Vermonter currently uses, but this would mean the train would bypass Springfield. The train would take the same route as the Lake Shore east of Palmer.
They did an awsome job on this line. Definately made it alot safer for hazmat shipping. Hopefully the VTR on the West side will be next. Time will tell.

Can someone tell me whch route this corridor would follow from Boston to Montreal. Particularly, where would it enter into Quebec. Use the present Amtrack route from the border to Mtl.? on the west side of Lake Champlain ?
