Did VRS ever consider buying the CV from CN in 1995? If they had, would it have been a wise move or not - be it financially or operationally?
I don’t know if VRS considered buying CV, but given the large amount RA paid for the property I doubt VRS would have been interested. Also, you should remember that VRS didn’t acquire GMRC until 1997, so the synergies between VR and CV would not have been as great.

Makes sense - VRS is state owned anyway, so I doubt Vermont had any desire to purchase the CV if others wanted to. On the other hand, what is the likely hood of a company such as RailAmerica or G&W buying VRS from the state? Seems like they have a profitable, tightly ran operation going on.
Actually, VRS is NOT owned by the State. Only the track is owned by the State. VRS is a private company.
