Vermonter service restored after rockslide
Pretty good coverage on VTDigger.com , with pictures. #102 doesn’t look badly damaged. NTSB will, undoubtably, take a year to conclude: “hit rockside, went of track”. Don’t ask about the EPA investigation…
VTDigger.org, actually (key in ‘Amtrak’ in the search box-- there are a few entries). Good info in the articles. Maybe there’s some video floating around somewhere.
That happened about 15 miles north of here. It appears to be just as reported–a big chunk of ledge fell on the track.
They are good about patrolling this line, but didn’t catch this one.
Thankfully nobody was killed or maimed.
People do seem to like getting killed by the Vermonter though. Earlier this year a young man walking the track nearby with his earbuds on and volume turned up was hit. He walked the track regularly, the train was on time. Not an accident!
Somebody did that in Essex Junction more recently.
Cars and pedestrians get hit at private crossings regularly too, even though they live there and the train is on time.
Can’t blame some rocks for wanting to get in on the action, I guess.
Perhaps the engineer was at fault for not blowing the horn loud and long enough to get the rocks to leave the track in time.
