very new to the world of model trains

Hello to everyone,

I’m Steven I’m 28 yrs old and have loved model trains since I was very little. Every year I go see the train shows that come to my local area here in wisconsin I have grown to become good friends with alot of the fellow people who have built and run their own models.
After seen what they have all done and having two of my own trains I have decided that I want to start slowly and build my own model railroad layout and take it to shows so people can see, I already know the scale size for which I am going to use I’m just needing some advise on how I should go along in getting started like is there a standert size that is good for a layout or doesn’t it really matter? I have an idea in my head that has been building itself for over 3 yrs now so I have the outlook on what I want just needing the help of when I have questions that someone can guide me in the right direction.

Steve

It would help if you told us which size you are modeling. If you’re doing large scale (also called “G” scale) trains outdoors, then this is the place to ask. If you’re looking to do indoor modeling (N, HO, S, O), then I’d suggest asking in the Model Railroaded forum instead. That’s where you’ll get the best answers to your indoor railroad construction questions.

Regardless, welcome and good luck!

Later,

K

Yep, we definitely need to know what scale you are wanting to model in. Regards, Dennis.

It is hard from your email to tell if you are interested in Garden Railways, topic of this forum. Incidentally, they are located in your state.
