http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=104929 I found this very nice angle at Blue Island Junction. I caught a pair of sparkling BN UNPATCHED Executive SD70MAC’s passing under the bridge which is over the Cal Sag Channel. Thanks for looking! [:)]

That’s very Great news since the others have that stupid patched crap.
Executive’s are the best.
BNSFrailfan.
please excuse my ignorance,
and possibly ignorance of other railfans …
What are “unpatched” and “executive” locomotives
Sweet[:)]!
I think that is the best thing to do to them otherwise they would be fully painted.I also think the BNSF herald on the front of them makes it look better.Thay look like crap If they don’t patch them.
I remember seeing this train in Fostoria early afternoon heading west. I say this because the bethgons look exactly like the silver GEAX gondolas and same as when I saw that number, it had BNSF owned power too.
To “patch” a locomotive is a method of painting the area(s) of the locomotive that show who owns it and its identification (number) without re-painting the whole unit. This happens when railroads merge and a new paint scheme and / or new number is needed for a unit in the old paint / numbers.
The “executive” locomotives are the former BN SD60MAC units that are painted dark green & cream w/ red pinstripes. They are called executive units because the paint scheme was chosen by Gerold Grindstein (sp) a BN executive.
Wow, look at the heat coming from the top of those locomotives. I wonder how fast they are going?
Gabe
Now lets not open old wounds.
Who me?

This is an example of a patched unit. It is an ex CNW But UP hasn’t painted it yet.

Very good example.
CRACKING Photo!! I’m just preparing for my annual pilgrimage to Chicago from this side of the pond. Blue Island is always a “Must See” spot for me. Speed? I noticed last year that since they put the new track in there, speeds were well into the 40mph range, whereas before the new alignments, they’d be doing round about 20-30mph. Blue Island needs to be treated with a little more respect now those trains are going much faster!!
This is a great photograph.
People who complain about being rejected by railpictures should spend a little time looking at what they do post. Most photos are outstanding.

That executive scheme looks better than that new one with the orange paint, and especially that hideous new logo. Looks like something from a toy, not fit for a loco. The green and white was much better. (plus its variant looked great on the executive e’s while they were still around!)
still ranks in my top 3 paint schemes… maybe it’s me but i have a hard time finding dirty BNSF units anywhere. the UP on the other hand, the dirty outnumbers the clean.
slightly off topic, but i remember someone posting a while back that coal empties were limited to 55mph. yesterday i happened to be along side an empty coal train west of princeton, IL and we were both doing 65… must need it quick!

Hate to be the jerk know-it-all railfan, but they’re SD70MACs…
Oops, my bad, sorry.
