Veterans Day: Off-topic but I don't care

I just want to express my heart-felt gratitude and thankfulness to ALL you veterans - men and women - who have fought, served, and are serving in the armed forces world-wide, in order to fight for and maintain our freedom in our respective countries. If I could, I’d give you ALL a hearty handshake AND a big bear hug because you ALL deserve it!

I would also like to encourage each of you: If any of you know a veteran and/or families of veterans - ESPECIALLY those who have had a family member who paid the ultimate price - I hope you’ll share your gratitude to each of them for what they have done and have given up in their service to us. I say this because my own father fought in the South Pacific and my uncle Jim (my dad’s brother, whom I never met) paid the ultimate price amongst the hedgerows at Normandy, France in 1944. One day I hope to go over to France to visit his grave. Also, one of the fellas who works at a LHS I frequent, served in Vietnam and I plan on thanking him and shaking his hand again tomorrow for his service to my country.

No matter what your opinions and feelings are on our present war, or any previous wars that our respective countries have been involved in, our veterans deserve all the support and gratitude that we can give them. I know this has nothing to do with MRRing but…[reread my title]. I hope that you’ll set aside those feelings and make the effort to thank and support our veterans and armed service personnel and their families world wide for what they have given, and sometimes given up, in order for us to enjoy the freedoms that we do enjoy.

A salute and “Thank you!” to ALL of you today - and EVERY day - who have served and are serving my country on this Veterans Day! I am in great indebtedness to each of you.

Tom

You put that very nice Tom. God Bless America and all the veterans and their families for the sacrifices they make/made for this great country.

This day is celebrated not just in the US of A and Canada (as Remembrance Day), but in many other places as well. Our British, Australian and New Zealand members are on board with this one. I don’t know about the rest of Europe, but they all have reason enough to be thankful on this day.

Well said Tom, I to would like to thank all the Canadian Vets out there.

Tom,

Thank you for your sentiments - it is highly appreciated.

Skates,

Thank you for mentioning families. I really do think it is they that give up alot. The spouses, parents, children and other family members are the ones that sacrifice so that we can do what we truly love to do.

Hear Hear!!!

Like I said on the ‘Remberence Day’ thread, my dad and his father worked in the airforce. I f anyone has ever been to Shamokin, PA, then you’ll see the stone honoring the U.S. Airforce workers and my dad and his father is on it! Also, my dad’s father’s brothers fought in WWII !! My mom’s father worked in the air force. So as you can see, my family is full of veterans!

Thanks Tom and all the others.
I servedn the Army–GO ARMY

Thanks.

Great post, tstage. I don’t think it’s too far off topic. I mean, we might be modeling a lot differently, don’t you agree? We could be reading Japanese or German instructions. I would say that veterans are responsible for every aspect of our American way of life, and I thank each and every one. Although I am not a vet, my father was. He was an EM3C in the Navy from '43 to '46. Thankya daddy. I know somehow you see this.

I’d like to say thank you as well. there are constantly protesters outside the gates to my base, and i often forget that there are still people out there who appreciate us and what we do. i’d like to say thank you to all of you who support us.

TOM DITO on your comments, we would be in a right mess without “our hero’s”
My grt grt Grandad Brewer died on the Somme, he was gassed in the trenches, another relative Jack Cornwell died after a fight on HMS Chester with four German cruisers in the battle of Jutland, he got the VC and was the youngest man to receive it in WW1, this web site tells the story
