Veterans...Huge Job Fairs!

Veterans you need to go the www.ACAP.army.mil website and watch for job fairs at your nearest active duty base. I was honored to attend one today at Ft. Hood, at UPRR request. Not only was UP there, but so was CSX, BNSF, NS and every other kind of employer you could possilby think of!

Hi Zapp the railroads love to hire ex military as the back round check has already been done, I am retired Navy and have been with BNSF now for 5 years, I am in the operations department and am a locomotive engineer and enjoy everyday, I used to work in a steel mill and hated everyday I was their.

They say they like to us hire us because we are already use to working outside, bad hours, hectic schedules, and yet we still get it done. Then there’s the tax break the Federal goverment gives them for hiring a Vet.![;)]

I attended a Job Fair here at Fort Campbell before we deployed. There was great information from the Employers, State, Federal, and local employment offices too. I spoke to a rep from NS and checked into the Freight Conductor skill profile.

Most of the major companies already have been given awards from GIJOBS.COM for most sought after employement. Getting to do the interview and conducting the Hogan, Color Blindness test and background check was pretty easy. Waiting a year to finish up my Active Duty time was the hardest part for me. I kept on top of my recruiter at AMDG every month and as my time drew closer to retirement.

Plan ahead. Check with your local market to see if your ACAP office has a PROVET Counselor. Your state may be able to pay for your training under WIA. I read in a previous link that some of the railroads are even paying for your tuition depending on location of employment.

If you have a problem coming up with the financing, you may qualify for a Career Training loan through Salli Mae.

Now you may be able to use one of 2 options out of your GI Bill. The first option is using your Montgomery GI Bill for your classes. The catch is that you must successfully complete the course before you are reimbursed. Because the classes are less than a Semester you may not get the full entitlement. But, money is money.

The second option is to have the VFW pre-screen your medical records for you before you separate from Military Service. This is currently being done here at Fort Campbell and is still in it’s infancy. The VFW rep will sit down with you and go through your medical record. Every sickcall, operation, injury that you had during your time in service will be applied towards your claim for compensation / pension. A 0% disability rating is still better than none. 30% is where you may qualify for Vocational Rehabilitation. Check http://www.va.gov/ for more information.

If your served during any time period and have not tried to

[#ditto] GREAT INFORMATION, RIGHT THERE!
