Tracks should be restored through Union Station in downtown Ottawa and return trains there to bring added convenience to railway passengers. Via Rail Canada would benefit from greater attraction to the travelling market. A railway terminal away from downtown Washington is unthinkable.
Tracks restored through downtown Ottawa? Good luck with that! That said, the new light rail line under construction will offer a fast and convenient link between the current VIA station on Tremblay Rd and downtown.
So, the additional trains make a total of 8 runs each way between Toronto and Ottawa daily roughly from 5:30 am to 6:30 pm.
When will VIA Rail bring back the Toronto ,Kitchener, London, Sarnia , Durand Michigan,and Chicago Service, Its been 13 years since 9/11
Hopefully this will come to the time that VIA Rail can operate without any financial contribution from the federal government by operating more frequently on these heavily traveled routes to gain revenue. Since Ottawa`s main train station is not at downtown, a free OC Transpo transit fare should be implemented once the light rail transit route is completed across downtown in 2018. Meaning for any passengers wishing to use VIA Rail should ride free between the Parliament Station at downtown and the VIA Rail station providing passengers show a proof of same day purchase VIA Rail ticket or pass. This will encourage more business for VIA Rail to operate self-sufficiently.
Regarding the Toronto-Kitchener-Chicago service: The train was a big money-loser in Michigan. The state of Michigan withdrew its subsidy in favour of other services, so no service to Chicago. Unless the state of Michigan wants to subsidize a train from Port Huron to Chicago the service will not return.
