Joy, for the politicians in Ottawa, anyway. Pierre Elliott Trudeau lives!

So much for the days when they would try to handle the train on an alternate routing…

Too bad they didn’t reroute it Winnepeg-Toronto via Chicago over CN controlled lines or Winnepeg-Toronto over CP.

Really? The Canadian travels west through Burlington,ON before turning north?

Take the Canadian to Vancouver , Fly to Winnipeg, and with luck you might find a VIA train heading west.

Caption on the picture is incorrect, The Canadian doesn’t go anywhere near Burlington.

Brian Dempsey: thanks. I was confused by that caption.

I predict that The Canadian will no longer be served as a regular train service in ten years from now. It will likely be served as a one per week luxury private tourist train service that will take longer to travel. Now it takes four days from previously three days to travel the entire route and again late upon arrival on most runs., Fewer local people are using it than ever with more wealthy foreign tourists are enjoying the run. The existing Canadian federal government is try to get out of subsidizing passenger train service.

Once there were [ 2 sections ] of the Canadian , Section # 1 started in Montreal and travelled up the Ottawa river valley to Mattawa and west through North Bay on to Sudbury.Section # 2 started in Toronto and headed north to Sudbury where it joined section #1 This of course was on the CPR and the train travelled west through Calgary to Vancouver. Then along came VIA Rail and the train was reduced and travelled on CNR rails starting in Toronto and going west through Edmonton and over the Yellowhead Pass ond down to Vancouver . My last journey on the Canadian was in 2006 Vancouver to Toronto ,in August 34 cars Wonderful Trip.{ the service on VIA was fantastic ]
