A city like Churchill without highway access is a true rustic city. That it is accessible primarily by train is quaint and romantic. I wish most cities in the mainland U.S. are like this.

I would think that most, if not all, Churchill residents would rather have a paved highway south so that they can more conveniently go about their lives than rely on train service as their only means of land transportation. I visited Churchill in the late 70s when it still had a military base of some significance and before all the tourists arrived. Even then it was claustrophobic. Worse than an island. At least on an island you can get a boat off. Boat transportation in Churchill was very limited to say the least.

Just to set the record straight, Flin Flon is in Manitoba…not Saskatchewan. It is, however, right at the provincial boundary, and it’s neighboring city to the west, Creighton, IS in Saskatchewan.
