VIA Rail to operate limited service on Churchill route

Excuse me, when did Flin Flon cross the border to Saskatewan and leave the province of Manitoba???

Excuse me, when did Flin Flon cross the border to Saskatewan and leave the province of Manitoba???

There are three ways to get to Churchill. Rail, air, and ship. There is no fourth way (e.g., no through roads). Without the rail link that town is a hurting unit.

There has been no service to Lynn Lake, MB for a number of years and is only now provided to Pikwitonei, MB a First Nation location. The service is a mixed train operated by the Keewatin Railway operated twice a week each direction. However, it is my understanding, there are no overnight accomodations at Pikwitonei at this time so doing this trip would be difficult at best.
Fortunately, I made the trip at an earlier date when the train went all the way to Lynn Lake and bus service was available to Thompson to connect with VIA 693 to Churchill.

Well, aside from the “border” questions, one wonders if this gives VIA an excuse to suspend this service on a longer-term basis? Vancouver Island, gone! Gaspe, gone! Not much longer and there will be nothing but corridor service between Windsor and Quebec City. VIA has no interest in serving the rest of Canada and, unfortunately, that includes the Canadian.

The Polar Bear Express between Cochrane and Moosenee ON is operated by Ontario Northland Transportation Commission. The reason why its called the Polar Bear Express because Moosenee is a gateway to charter flights to see polar bears further up on the Hudson Bay. Moosenee is still below the tree line where polar bears prefer to habitat in the tundra above the tree line

Via could send up a couple of RDCs to see the Polar Bears. VIA runs the Polar Bear express from Cochrane to Moosenee On. to see the Polar Bears but there are NO Polar Bears in Moosenee, just Black Bears in the dump ???

Andrew Buddy, The air fare from Moosenee to Churchill Manitoba and return is over $ 950.00 ,The only people using the service are Gov!t paid people. Most tourists are surprised to find the truth when they arrive in Moosenee

Hey Gordon: There is an Ontario park known as Polar Bear Provincial Park situated along the Hudson Bay coastline at about 200 miles northwest of Moosenee at less than half of the distance to Churchill from Moosenee that is located at the edge of the tree line where polar bears can be sighted. The access is not the greatest to reach there but air charters are available from Moosenee at hopefully less than $900.
