Vice President unveils gingerbread Amtrak station for Christmas
Please let this guy be the next guy to be President of Amtrak. Get someone in there who is respected in Washington, and you get funding.
A picture of the gingerbread house would be useful for this story.
I agree! We know what Joe Biden looks like–show us the station!
Mr Simpson.
That is in my opinion an excellent idea. He (Biden) knows the intricacies of government as well as being quite favorable to Amtrak. A winning combination.
For those who would like to see the station.

I assume this is at the official VP mansion at the Naval Observatory?..
Biden running amtrak or the fra or something rail influential is an excellent idea.
I fail to understand why anyone gives Mr. Biden credit for supporting Amtrak and passenger travel, generally. What significant things has he accomplished? His boss did a bait and switch on passenger rail.
The ARRA ground transportation funding of 2009-2010 went overwhelmingly to road projects. Some hope and change. The only passenger rail Mr. Obama would talk about publicly was the very thing the nation wasn’t ready for: a network of 220mph trains all over, an initiative with a pricetag we could not afford.
Maybe, if the administration had gone to creating public/private partnerships with the freight railroads for capacity expansion that would have benefitted both services we would have gotten somewhere. Maybe, if the passenger service iniatives would have concentrated on moderate increases in speeds (HrSR instead of the unrealistic HSR) along with multiple frequencies we would have made significant progress. The traveling public desires above all, reliability, multiple frequencies, and reasonable pricing, and clean well-maintained equipment.
Mr. Biden was part of an administration of egg-heads who saw the high-speed trains in Europe and Japan and decided we should have that here with no understanding that unless we were to build whole new ROWs at frightful cost that would include takings of properties, we were going to have to superimpose passenger rail on the existing freight rail network. But the latter wasn’t sexy. And Mr. Obama’s egg-heads, including “Amtrak Joe”, who I have seen referred to now as “Helicopter Joe”, considered going to the freight railroad CEOs for their assistance beneath them.
If “Amtrak Joe” was serious about spreading the word about passenger rail expansion why did he not embark on a national tour riding all of Amtrak’s services, including the LDs to educate himself on what’s out there beyond his sacred NEC between Wilmington and Washington, DC?
If passenger trains (and transit) were
cool uncle joe give one to obama
Joe Biden for Amtrak president and CEO! He was a congressman and a senator. He should be able to work with them to improve Amtrak.
