VIDEO: A day on the Hoot ‘n’ Holler Railroad
Don–
I have enjoyed your articles. They have been very complete yet concise. This video is really cool too…something to emulate!
Your line looks very settled and complete. When did you break ground? I think you said that you had structures etc from your old gargen. they fit together very nicely in their new home,
Thanks for your comments, Eric. I broke ground in October 2008, built the retaining wall and brought in fill dirt. The rest of it was completed between April and September, 2009. All except one of the buildings were built between 1997 and 2007, and resided on the Rustin and Decrepit RR before it was disassembled and morphed into the Hoot ‘n’ Holler. Most of the plants (all the woody shrubs and trees) came from the R&D, also.
Hi Don, A great video I was surpried at the sound for the loco, if it had been mine I would have used a pheonix Consolidation but we all use the one we want Keep the trains rolling.
Nice video. It is not too often that we get to see a well-planned and executed garden railroad in operation, much less in a 16- minute video. It was a pleasure to watch and was a source of inpiration and motivation. Thanks for your efforts.
Don,
Very nice (Articles & video ). I’m a first time Builder , and yes something to emulate. Hey, I’ve got a retaining wall. The plants are great and fit right into the railroad.
thanks
Hi Don. Thanks for sharing your series of articles in GR. I saw your Rustin & Decrepit RR at the Natl. Convention a few years back, which was fantastic. Now you have transitioned into the CEO of a completely new and different RR. I love the operational possibilities of this NEW RR. Thanks for sharing your skills and railroad with all of us. - Nelson
Don,
Well planned and executed layout.
I am a novice to this hobby and have been trying to read and investigate all I can to plan my outdoor train. I have always wanted to get into model trains and now with a 4 yr old son who loves trains thought G scale was the way to go. I really enjoyed your videos and the articles in the magazine. Any suggestions on what to look into and what to stay away from as I plan my outdoor track. Started off with PIKO starter set and have added some LGB and Aristo Craft tracks, but am halting for now until I learn more. Suggestions?
I can only reiterate all of the centements above truely a very well planned built and run Garden railroad and yes very pleasurable to watch your video which was very well produced I throughly enjoyed it thanks
