Sound is correct but I personaly think that is too low, Quantun Revolution is better in that way.

The sound is awesome!!

Are there different horn sounds available? The one shown in the video is terrible, in my opinion.

As always, it would be helpful if Model Railroader included basic programming/CV capabilities of decoders and decoder-equipped locos. For instance, does this beautiful FP7 respond to CVs 02, 05 and 06? If not, it will be difficult to 3-step speed match it to a fleet. Further, can the engine RPM sound be manually notched? Such information could be displayed as a caption during the video (as other information is informatively displayed, thank you) so it wouldn’t need to be a part of (detract from) the narration. Why not give us as much information as you possibly can in a 2:30 video? The more you tell us about a product, the better informed we are to make a purchase… or not. If Model Railroader has a fault it’s that you always try to paint too rosey a picture in product reviews. We hobbyists want the cold, hard facts as well as the fluff.

WOW!

WOW!

Once again enjoyed the show and comments.

Just wondering : - are you gong to do a review on the new “T” gauge 1/450th scale, line of model trains. (Just don’t do it around 1st April, or no one will believe.)

It would appear, if they ever get around to manufacturing a small industrial engine, that this would be around the correct size to have a model of a ‘live-steam’ miniature railway in that back of some-ones HO-scale back yard or even a “O” gauge model in “G/F” scale.

The mind boggles under the possibilities for this new gauge

I see on the web that scratch building commenced… a Victorian (Australian) T Class(decked out in classic ERIE inspired Blue and Gold) and passenger cars… very basic, but a beginning

Sounds and looks just like the real life size engines.

If they come out with a model of one of my roads, Ill get one of these. JN

Now if they’ll just make a version for the Katy!!!

How many remember articles in MR and MRC during the 1970s about sound and cameras? I remember an article about placing a TV camera in the nose of an engine to get the view from the front (so to speak - this shortly before Lionel did it). From the perspective of cost, the average increase of the price of a newer engine is less than anticipated and the quality of the newest products are fantastic and extreme,y superb. There is little comparison between my three PAa (purchased in 1977) and the offferings of the same engine today (and I do not include DCC and sound, even though I have converted mine to run DCC).

The bell is louder than the EMD engne sound! Perhaps setting the CV a bit higher, would have added to the realism…
P.S. Who’s idea was it to paint the layout fascia board that hideous reddish-orange!!! It is is horrible…

We love the marriage of Athearn and Soundtraxx(Tsunami). (We have over 45 units to date). This FP7 unit sounds and looks very very good! I hope that Athearn does clean up their quality control on a few items. If you make one for one of our roads we will more than likely purchase one or two. V/R
