Video: Athearn N scale Big Boy
WoW, Excellent Effects, Impressive performance
I recently purchased the Athearn N scale Challenger and was impressed, I now intend on purchasing a Big Boy to add to my sound equipped N scale locomotive roster. Great work Athearn.
Cool as It can be!!! Its got some awesome sound to it too! I would love to have one of those big boys on my layout in no time!
I don’t think my computer sound is good enough to appreciate the DCC sound on this otherwise magnificent loco.
Interesting display of micro engineering. How much more can we expect in the future.
The Whistle Sounds odd.
Ive just read an article in trains magazine about the big boys coming out of retirement for a job. It was an older mag but its cool to see this video of how awesome one must have been in real life.
You didn’t mention air pump sounds!
I’mgoing to getmine as soon as posible. Sounds and looks Great
I would like to hear from someone who can comment on how the sound in this video compares to the actual sound made by the locomotive. I would guess that the compression for the video reduced the realism of the sound system, but I would like to hear what those who have heard both have to say.
I model in HO and run Athearn’s Challenger. This model is impressive and should I ever decided to do a layout in N scale, I will own a Big Boy. Good stuff.
Jim Kelly’s layout was a fine choice for showcasing this sweet N scale Big Boy by Athearn’s Genesis dept. I particularily liked the ‘s’ turns leading to the tunnel. It sounded just fine on the web site. I’ll have to hear it in person. It seems that every new issue of sound equipped locomotives just gets better and better. We live in a fantastic time of technological leaps and bounds! Kudos to all the manufacturers!
Awesome!
I HOPE THE SOUNDS I HEAR OR NOT FROM MY COMPUTER SOUND SYSTEM. SOUND LIKE A BUNCH OF MICE TRYING TO GET OUT OF MY SPEAKERS. MAY BE ITS BEEN TOO LONG SINCE PEOPLE HAVE HEARD CHOO-CHOO TRAINS.
I didn’t know what the sounds were until they were identified.Maybe my computer sound isn’t good enough like Geoff Walker said.
I have been enjoying the Athearn’s Challenger for about a year, and I recently aquired a Big Boy. Anothyer superb N scale steam locomotive! I realize that the Big Boy’s sound effect is exactly the same with that of trhe Challenger. It would have been nicer if the Boy Boy had a slightly different sound from the Challenegr.
I got mine a couple of weeks ago and it is an awesome piece of work.
I have just taken delivery of one and it is magnificent, the sounds are better than reproduced here on the video and it looks fantastic hauling 50 freight cars which is just right for my layout. I will be putting my own video of the Big Boy on my blog soon at Keiths N gauge trains
Looks awsome, would like to hear it with my ears not over my laptop sound.
