never heard a whistle that high pitched on an american locomotive! i kinda like it though.

@BRANDON FITZPATRICK
Some loco’s did, but this locomotive is based of a export locomotive anyway.
Anyway looks pretty good!

Looks great to me, fine sound and I also like the caboose. this should sell…

Wow that thing is huge on that HO layout! I know its a O scale that can run on HO track, but still that locomotive and caboose look like a G-Scale train on the layout! Very Cool.

Good show. Now i want one of these locomotives

Looks good,sounds great.

I assume that there never was a two foot gauge mallet so no prototype for this engine actully exists. That being said, I question the proportions of this model. It seems the boiler is too long and low, the cab is too large and the pilot hangs out too far in front. Back in 1904 the American Railroad of Puerto Rico ordered a meter gauge 0-6-6-0 that was much more pleasingly proportioned than this engine. It can be viewed in Jon Davis’ book “Mallets in the Tall Timber”. To be candid, I think all the Bachmann HOn21/2 steamers suffer from this problem of poor proportions.

IT’S REALLY AGGRAVATING THAT IT HAS BECOME SO DIFFICULT TO WATCH A VIDEO, HAVE TO DOWNLOAD ADOBE 10 WHICH FOR SOME REASON MY COMPUTER DOESN’T LIKE THIS PROGRAM. I NEVER USED TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM. WHY THE CHANGE?

We sure would like it if you called it an On30 locomotive, and not On 2 1/2. Thanks!

This locomotive has VERY realistic slow speed operation and, judging from valve gear motion, apparantly a very smooth operating mechanism. All that is missing is smoke, steam, and that wonderful smell. Having participated in the restoration and operation of a 1896 Cooke Ten Wheeler, this is about as close as it gets to the real thing. Sure makes one want to get into On2 1/2.

I liked the side door crummy, but would replace or modify the top of the roof access ladders to have them bend (sharply) all the way over to the roof for terminination of the side pieces. The open, partial bend turns me off since I have never seen that method used in prototype.

Very infpormative about the product, Thanks!!

Seems the only sound worthy of this loco is the bell. All others sound very shallow, & tinny. Also, why no cab crew? Slow speed running is excellent…

If I Wasn’t modelng in HO scale I would love to feature it on there

One nitpicking point, the Tsunami should be set up for single “chuff” not dual. On a true Mallet like this, where the steam is used twice, you’d only hear four ‘chuffs’ per revolution, just like a conventional engine.

Good video!!! don’t like the nitpicking in here tho, no need for it.

fun to watch good video thk u

Never mind the falderal and the criticisms, Dana. You’re doing a great job and I love the features, the sound, and the running of this engine. Any problems would be easily fixed with a little “kit bashing.” Great product, and easily modified for On30. Thanks.

I agree with the people commenting on the nit pickers. My first layout was in the mid-1970’s and it’s remarkable how much model railroading has improved. If you go to page 72 in the May issue and read the entire review you will be informed that the sounds can be fine tuned by changing the CV values. Thank you MR for a great job in informing us of what’s available for this hobby.
