I like BLI products, but hate with a passion the voice announcements.
I wonder why MMR have never reviewed the GS4?? Thats the only model from BLI that has giving me dramas…
BLI products run very smooth, but there are two things I just can’t get past on their steamers…
1). The CHUFF - chuff - chuff - chuff - CHUFF - chuff - chuff - chuff
2). Every few revolutions there is a pause in the chuff rate
What happened to the stealth models? I’d start buying them again if they came with no decoder so I can install Tsunami in them and not waste money on the Paragon system.
I certainly agree with the voices, need not be in any system.
Audio of loco bell doesn’t sound quite right. I know I have heard the Doppler affect on previous run byes when trains have driven past the cross-buck protected automobile crossing on the straight-away. Was that a function of the loco sound or auto-crossing? Great looking valve gear operation and chuff sound at slow speed operation.
Are the coupling rods on the wheels to scale. They look huge and the silver accentuates them. They just don’t look right. Perhaps it is just me???
very nice, well done.
Wish that was N Scale
The whole line of BLI steam locomotives are magnificent in concept BUT the mechanisms are very much luck-of-the-draw! On our club layout and at home I’ve seen BLI steamers run for hours on end toting heavy loads but I’ve also seen the sound systems on some engines start to get intermittent and then cut out entirely after just a few laps and I’ve seen gears strip and drive trains fail. I’ve spent well over $100 sending engines back to Florida for overhaul with indifferent results. In short, what these engines need is much more robust engineering and bullet proof quality control! Sorry to rain on the parade. That T-1 is a real looker!
Wonderful model, detailed and complete as far as I can see. I can’t wait to see if an N-Scale version will be out as well. Also, I noticed one of the opening scene station denizens must have been impressed. It looks as if he feinted from the accuracy of detail!
Cheers,

Just not long enough!
Although I do not favor eastern railroads, I’ve always found Pennsylvania Railroad locomotives interesting. This model is no exception and I found it quite entertaining to watch it run. As for Matthew Neisler from Austrailia, I can recommend the BLI GS-4 if he’s an SP Daylight fan. I obtained a model from the previous production run a couple of ears back and found it to be as well detailed as any past brass models, as well as better running. I don’t think he can go wrong.
As journalists you should be embarrassed by misspellings. “Kadee-compatable” indeed!
This is a great review of a great model! The diferences on the Original (this version) and the modern (previous anouncement) are the port holes in the engine front, the PRR Keystone placement, engine number light placement and thender (more skirted than the previous BLI model). It is a perfect math to Walthers Broadway Limited passenger cars! BLI has done another great job en MR another great report!
Sounds like crap
pretty engine, but I hate hat whistke with a passion, and that speaker enclosure needs to be muffled. Its sounds like its being blasted into a cave and for whatever reason, while the Bell sounded alright, the engine chuffs sounded more like they were coming from the RPO…
Great review always love the photography. Bit disappointed in the whimpish whistle for a locomotive of that class though.
I recently purchased the as-delivered T1. I’ve only run it on a test track (don’t have a layout at this time) to verify everything functions properly and everything did. The MMR was information and helpful - note the possibility of the engine pilot shorting to the track . The T1 was well executed by BLI. Also have other T1 version but prefer the as-delivered design. Very glad I purchased it.
Excellent review. Great information and Well presented video.
beautiful model and very well presented. god video. keep them coming.
