Video: Broadway Limited Imports Paragon2 HO SW7 diesel

I’ve been lookin at these for a while and they seem great. I might have to get one.

thats awsone… i have just purchased that

The video is cool!!! Also, not related to the video but is related to track layout design, turnouts, and their functionality whether good or bad. That is the double slip switch. What is the pros and cons of the double-slip switch in terms of derailment problems, wiring, etc…

For example, Walthers, Peco, and Roco sells a number 6, HO scale code 100 double-slip switch. The reason for the question is that I’m a beginner (a babe) in terms of a model railroader. I’m presently working on my first railroad project, building the Atlas Midland Central, perryshelton modification style.

And was wondering of adding a number#6 code 100 double-slip switch in the yard.

Any advice, direction, and instructions would be welcome

I have a BL switcher a couple of years old and still going strong. It seems this newer one has more features. I like it…I like it

WOW!AWSOME!!!

Hi Perry,
Regarding double-slip switches and other track questions. There’s an article on page 52 of the May 2007 issue called Special trackwork solves layout problems that discusses single-slip, double-slip, and three-way turnouts. For other general track questions you may want to check out the special issue How to Build Realistic Reliable Track.
Hopes this helps and thanks for reading Model Railroader.

My comment is not about this reveue and it more of a question about the Prodigy equipment. Is there any of them that has British sounds for steam. I got hooked on the LMS (London Midland Scotlish) system since I was stationed in England and Scotland, while in the US Navy. I see ads in their model railway magizines but I don’t know if it for US or UK.
The P is for Perry, and thank you for my sign and any help you can give me about Prodigy equipment.

very nice.the sound is great.

Sweet!

Hello Cody
I need some advise. I am starting to look at DCC for my new layout. Before DCC, I remember having to put plastic spacers in between track to make blocks. Do you have to still do that?
Thank you

I HAVE THE IC ONE LOOKS AND RUNS GREAT I M GOING TO BUY MORE

I purchased this unit a few weeks ago. It has great sound and is really smooth at low speeds. Max. speed is slow but that is probably prototypical. I loveit!

Very smoothe, Excellent sound reproduction. Makes one want one on the layout.

BLI’S SW-7 looks like a fine model (though you fellas shoulda straightened the front handrail before making the video). The motor rev CV is a neat idea - can it only be activated by function keys or does it (also) coordinate with controller throttle when momentum is engaged (MUCH more realistic)? The slow top speed should not be an issue - they were NOT designed for mainline through freight. Most were geared for 50 to 55 mph or so, and rode very rough at much over 30 anyway. Horn didn’t sound like ones I remember, but that could be my speakers (or lazy electrons between you and me. Will check this one out at my LHS. Thanks. Bob

Hi Charles,
I ran the locomotive through the yards on our MR&T and Wisconsin & Southern layouts without any problems. No stalls, no flickering headlights, and no interrupted sounds.
Hope this information is helpful.

Hello Edwin,

The Prodigy system is simply the controller. The sounds themselves come from a DCC decoder equipped with sound, and anyone’s decoder will work with the Prodigy system.

No one in the US that I’m aware of makes a decoder loaded with British steam sounds (though I believe that SoundTraxx is working on one), however, being a closet Brit modeler myself, I’ve been doing some research on that subject and have found these guys at South West Digital Ltd in the UK. They offer several decoders loaded with British sounds. For more information, check out their Web address at http://www.southwestdigital.co.uk/

Best wishes on your project.

Model Railroader magazine

In relation to EDWIN P FRAZIER JR, inquiry.

He, if the mags are for sale Stateside, should grab a copy of : either PECO’s Railway Modeler or Continental Modeler (URL : http://www.peco-uk.com), or Hornby Magazine. There are adverts to download UK whistle or loco sounds, including a couple of 3 cylinder locos.

It appears as though he could bypass the above and go direct to the “ESU Loksound” web site where there should be sound files available to be downloaded.

Hope this is helpful.

I own two of them and they preform perfectly together,
I also run Atlas switches and have had no stalling problems.
Can’t wait to get the Y6b!

I purchased one of these units a few weeks ago for the Poco Valley. I really like the way it operates, and the sound is great. I use it on my Hillside branch line, and now everyone in our operating group wants to run the branch. I set the “radio chatter” to CV 7, and it gets a lot of use.
