Video Extra: Penn Central, Amtrak, and Conrail GG1’s in action
I remember seeing GG1’s parked in the yard at Washington Union Station in 1975, saw them from a highway overpass. “Wow!” I said to myself, “Look at those old 1930’s diesels! I didn’t think there were any like that around anymore!”
I wasn’t a railfan yet, what did I know? I did know enough to recognize classic 1930’s Art Deco styling when I saw it, however. And they WERE cool!
