Hey - You’re a long ways from home there, dude !

But only about 1.0 mile from my office.

Some further details: Video is 1 min. 53 secs. long. Appears to show one of our local freights, not a thru train, judging from the loco and cars. Only 1 loco - NS 3056, which I understand is an ex-ConRail GP40-2 - and 12 cars, a mix of gondolas, covered hoppers, and mostly boxcars. More typically, the locals are push-pulls, with a single either a GP38-something, GP40-something, and/ or and SD40-something on each end. Though not provided, I guess this was filmed in the early afternoon - that’s typically when the moves in that direction occur.

To see about a half-dozen still photos that I shot at this location early this afternoon, complete with captions and some of the things mentioned in the post above - unfortunately, no trains came by that I could get - go to:

Yep I was visiting my son who lives outside of Philly

Yes I to think it was some sought of local picking up & delivering cars to the industries along the line.

It was actually late afternoon as we had started at Auburn St but there was no action there. We actually saw the lites of the loco from a overhead bridge near the Mack Truck offices so we went to a place where we could get a decent shot of it as it passed that spot. The train never showed there so we started hunting for it & located it where I shot it.

Thanks for ur input as it may assist some other trainfan where to go in Allentown

Yes in that 3rd pix on the top from the left I was standing I guess on the SW corner right next to the crossing arm when I shot the train [:)]

Thanks for your additional comments. If you could see the headlights from the bridge by Mack Trucks - that’s Downyflake Lane, right next to the Wawa chain’s convenience store there, correct ? - it was probably taking time to interchange with the East Penn Railway’s Perkiomen Branch, which connects with the NS main just around the curve to the left that’s in the far distance of your video. The boxcars at the end of your train are typical for what comes and goes on that line.

A better place to usually catch rail action is along the Allentown Yard on the eastern side of the Lehigh River. There’s almost always something moving at one end or the other, or at the hump in between, and its pretty much drive-by accessible at several points along its length.
