Good shot of one of the trimmers. That job is to pull the cuts out of the bowl. Hes to lets say grab the head 10 of 34 all of 36 and then whats in 40.That is then whatever train it is.They then pull out past the Amtrak depot (sometimes tothe limit of the remote boxes whic is always fun lol) and then the foreman takes over and rides the shove back into the track assigned to it.
Now my ol job there woul be just getting on the motors and getting them ready to come out and tie on,Ahhhh memories lol
BTW I heared the comment a big train for one locomotive. Thats how the trimmers do it day in day out. When I was in remote training we took 16,000 tons worth of BRC out with a tiny gp38.We had been using a SD40 but it died (this unit was notorious for getting warm then deciding it was break time lol) So the YM says dont worry Ill give you a light one. HA He always had a sick sense of humor.Once we got it all togther and ready to pull we told yard control "Dont stop us anywhere or we wont get going again"With her blesings we were off!!! We never made it over 5 mph all the way out nor all the way back.Needless to say the powers that be decided to add another GP to that unit so it could move the heavy cuts out at a better speed. So far it works real
