I always look forword to listen to Jims comments and find very interesting. I am getting back into model railroading I have my 1st train Athern rubberband drive & my Dads lionel from 1931. Also enjoy the D.P.B. video series. Keep up the good work.
How cool , I have all the old Model Railroaders from way back then, will have to review them. Keep these a comin.
Great story Jim! What did the rest of the staff say when they were told they’d need to mix another batch? Good stuff.
Good Story Jim! We still have my dad’s Lionel set from the late 50s- early 60s and it still runs great every time we use it under our tree every christmas.
I couldn’t help but notice, maybe its because I also follow NASCAR, but the KR&DC switcher looks very much like a cross between the stock cars of the Dale Earnhardt family. The reason is two-fold. First, the basic red color looks very much like the same shade of red that Jr. drove in the late 90s-early 00s when Budweiser was still sponsoring. Second, the number Gordy put on the engine is very similar in appearance and structure to the number that Sr. drove right up until his death in mid 2001.
Mate that yarn had me smiling as I imagined them with the stink and then nothing much to show for it come Monday:) that resin is really evil stuff so yes a good smile all round…
If the rest of the stories are as fun as this one, this should be a fun few months.
Jim,
I remember those days very well when we worked on each others layouts in Milwaukee. One Saturday afternoon I tried to put the same water mixture in the creek by East Portal. The smell was so bad in the house I had to take my family out to dinner and a movie. When we got home the smell was still horrible, some had run down the facia and curtain hiding the junk under the layout and onto the floor. We all woke up the next morning with headaches. I had to promise never to use that stuff again!
hope you guys enjoyed the holidays. we did.redoing our first layout and gals working on #2 we are busy having fun.dave jim great idea on all those older trains in case it will be interesting i am sure.my #1 son has my amerian flyer from 1952 still runs great around tree at christmas.my dad had bought all of the kids special presents and he and mom a new buick roadmaster.what a car. thks guys great job crt/friends
Great story about the water. Nowadays the building would probably have been shut down and a Haz-Mat team would have had to come in and clean it up!
I absolutely love every episode and wait with interest for the next one
I can relate to this smelly situation when I poured the log pond on my Lost River Lumber Co. layout out of about 2 gallons of epoxy machinery seating resin…it s-t-u-n-k! Part of the pond leaked and I had a box “glued” to the floor for about 15 years.
I have unable to recive vitios for some time
Super episode…glad to see even the pros slip on occassion. I going to gid out my MRR ibrary and see if I have theJanuary 1972 issue.
Looking forward to the next installment.
I love it. Keep the series running! Thanks for all of your work.
The Kinnickinnic Rwy. & Dock Co series was in one of the first copies of Model Railroader that I ever read back when I was 12 years old. I still count that as one of my favorite project railroads along with the Clinchfield and the Beer Line. Never was sure if I was pronouncing Kinnickinnic correctly till I heard Mr. Heidiger say it in the video - I was pretty close! Thanks for the memories.
I always enjoy Jim’s participations. Thanks.
Sorry gang and all of us Dale fans, the 3 needs to lean to the left.
Good story! I remember the issue with this layout and this background just brings reality to model railroading adventures when trying new procedures.
I had a simular experience using those products while repairing a fender off a 1971 corvette.
Lot of fun! I have the original issues from early 70’s. Same layout was also recirculated in MR 1977 book, POPULAR MODEL RAILROADS YOU CAN BUILD.
