I am one of those who likes to see layout plans. I too was hoping to finally see more of the magazine’s layout. Throughout the years, I have seen it in bits and pieces depending on the project for that month. I must have missed the article showcasing the entire layout. I can only imagine it when looking through my past issues.
My old Big Boy is obsolete now.
I would have liked to see it runnin on a curve, for obvious reasons.
Hand-shoveling coal on a Big Boy? You’ve got to be kidding!
And sorry, but the exhaust sound isn’t realistic-sounding to me.

Great video. The weathering is really nice.My only problem is with the sound system. The real Big Boy’s fire box was so large that a fireman wasn’t able to shovel enough coal. Instead, a screw was used.

Seems to me that this video would’ve been better if it had been shot on the MR&T instead of the Troy Branch. On the MR&T, Dana could’ve brought that locomotive up to full speed and really shown off it’s sound system.

Very nice loco. If I had not switched over to diesel there would one of these babies on my layout.

Does the sound get louder if it pulls a load? Nice paint job. The mechanism seems to be smooth and quiet. I would like to see one live.

The sound system is correct to include the option of hearing the fireman using a coal scoop. On engines with stokers, occasional use of the scoop was still required to tend the fire and reach areas of the firebox that the stoker couldn’t, such as the rear corners.
