Looks gnood will trty out tonight.
Thanks Cody. You always have a great idea.
Why did you not clean the rest of the locomotive?
Nice job Cody!!
It seems possible that dirty wheels could negate or effect programming a decoder.

Use the same technique with great results, except use Goo Gone instead of the alcohol. Will test to see which works better next time. After cleaning also add the slightest touch of Wahl Hair Clipper Oil to each wheel with toothpick. Fantastic conductivity. Don’t know why it works, and it does not seem to gunk up the track–but it works. With moderate running, I clean wheels only every 12-16 months, and tracks once a year.
I can only wonder what type of sound decoder was installed in the locomotive an MRC, or a Digitrax. Thanks for the tip, and let us know more about the sound decoder.
Thanks! Just what I was looking for today!
This is one of those “must have” ideas, and it’s cheap! I’ve been doing this for years. I haven’t tried Goo Gone yet as another reader suggested, because the alcohols works so good. Thanks for the tip!
I have a Pocher Genon V & T RR Engine with coal tender (Motor) and it runs beautifully except that it came wiith no drive shaft. I tried to maake one but that does not work well. Does anybody know where I can locate a driveshaft so I can put this unit in service. Thank You.
HOLY! I just tried this on a locomotive I thought had clean wheels. What a difference!!! Thanks Cody
As an Australian resident and spending hours cleaning wheel sets and just becomeing a subscriber I thought I was doing well.Access to these how to videos makes things so much easier not only wheel cleaning but I have used some of your other tips with great results taken from previous magazine issues.Well done guys thankyou Alan.
Tried this, and it works well, but used Denatured Alcohol, appeared to work even better.
Great idea, what about wheels with rubber tyres? Will any of these solvents damage the tyres?
I tried the technique and it works great! Thanks Cody! I have also tried using the 70% alcohol for cleaning track. This also works well.
I have read about the same idea but by using wd40 instead.
I will have to try the alcohol.
This will cut down the time of trying to move the wheels a little then clean and repeat.
thanks for the tip
thanks!this will help me clean my wheel sets.great tip!
Thanks I have heard alittle about this and now understand how to do it
