Video: How to model simple hoses
Thanks for the great tips, Cody. Those hoses look very realistic. I’ll try making hoses that way, myself.
Half the fun of looking at anything in any store is not seeing the obvious and looking at it for different possibilities in Model Railroading. I’ve stripped wires before and never thought of it for hoses.
Cody thinking this may also work for down spouts and if you slice the wire insulation down the center length wise you can use it as gutters.
Wire is very useful stuff past its electrical intent. For years now I’ve used it to make firecracker antenna for my locomotives. I was tired of having the brass and plastic cast one pop off all the time, so I came up with takin a bit of a lead from a micro bulb and strip off the case. Trim the other end the antenna to length. Twist the strands tight drill your hole in the roof of the loco, and secure it in place with CA. If you want to dress it up cut a bit of very thin styrene as a base plate and it adds a bit visually. Paint aas usual and what you have is a antenna that will take a licking and show none for the wear. I’ve had these on locos last for years under repeated handling in a club enviroment and show no signs of damage. They get bumpped and lean over, and just lean them back to the vertical and you are good to go. Give it a try…
Nice tie, Cody…looking kind of formal this time round…
Great idea, too, thanks.
John
great suggestion
Need supplier forN scale Brass Unions ,thanks.
joecferguson@att.net.
Great tips as usual. How about a tip for painting window pane frames? I’m still building my Salt Lake Route in N scale. The locomotive maintenance shed has a large number of windows that require painting the window frames and my eyes/hands just won’t cooperate with a paint brush. Any suggestions??
Thank you,
I have stripped the wire from twist ties, if you use the long ones that come in toy packages the wire gauge is just right to replace handrails on tank cars etc.
Never once did I think to put the skin into use.
“…attach it with some CA…”
What is CA?
@ Ross
CA is cyan-something or other. All it is is super glue
Cody you always do a good job
I’m going to use this tip on my new layout
Great tip David! Thank you!
good ideas
My bulk oil depot will be gettin’ some new hoses! Thanks Cody!
