Video: How to paint turnout points on model railroad track
Cody
I was watching your video on “How to paint turnout points. I hot wire my points to my bus or main rail by taking 22-24 gage solid copper wire. I turn the turnout over and insert the wire in the hollow point rail close to the pivot point. I then solder the wire to the rail. Once both points are wired and set my turnout in place I mark and drill two holes through the track bed and fasten the wire to the bus.
For Turnouts that are already in place, I take fine stranded wire about 1/2” long and Solder it to the outside of the point near the pivot to the solid rail adjacent to the point rail on the other side of the pivot. I found that both methods work and do not bind the points. Then you could spray the entire track and not worry about the point contacts. Test it out and see.
