Very good idea to blacken the back!

Sharpies are permanent ink markers. Aren’t you concerned the ink will bleed through and permanently stain the decal film?

how to prevent silvering of decals on flat painted craftsmen wood and resin ho scale box cars

Microscale decals should NOT be cut back to the image. The film is “feathered out” to not leave an edge so cut beyond the film.

Since I’ve never used decals this video really helped me to begin to understand what’s involved.
How about more detailed videos on decals??

Thanks for the hint when using white decals. My 75 year old eyes are not what they used to be.

Curved scissors sold to cut lexan car bodies work great cutting close to the image when trimming a decal.

Good presentation, but you could have added the following:
Give the carbody a coat of gloss clear.
Let that coat sit for several days.
Clean off carbody before decal work is to begin. This means with water. pat dry.
Use demineralized water (available in your local supermarket) to do your decalwork.
If possible, wear surgical gloves for the procedure, and use a desk type lamp, such as an “Ott-Light”, rather than trying to work with overhead lighting.
Follow the instructions that are with the decals-to the letter; especially in the case of thin-film decals.
