…great stuff! keep up the great work!
i like my HO,but appreciate all scales!
Outstanding!
Very nice. I have an HO layout (6x8ft in a closet and N scale would have allowed a complete train like this. Makes me want to switch scales but but the wife would shoot me.
Impresive.
another great set by kato
Neat train but a tad pricey. I run a UP “VIP Excursion” train on my modern-era N-Scale layout based on the Salt Lake series. It’s shorter, but has many of the cars this new KATO set has and pulled by a KATO F-3 engine.
My motivation to include it on a modern-era layout is traveling on UP’s vintage excursion train pulled by a beautiful Challenger steam engine. (Still saving up to buy that one)
I think there will be a growing trend to smaller scale layouts simply because of the HUGE cost of equipment coming out these days.
Model Railroading is a great hobby, but getting very pricey.
Very impressive layout!
The train looks good. I run HO, but I have the same concerns as a few others- the prices. Most new locos start at $200.00 w/o sound. And the manufacturers make so few of them, that if you want one, you have to buy them immediately. Years ago, a few manufacturers made dummy locos. Therefore you could run 3 to 4 units without all of them having to be live -which almost no model train needs anyway. Unless you’re a Wall Street banker, the makers may be pricing the hobby out of existence. Nice train though.
You can install Digitrax SDN144K0A sound decoders in E9 units. You have to mill out the frame to take the decoders. I just installed one in an E8 and it workd great. You can have
Aztec Engineering mill the frames (www.aztectrains.com).
I would love a set but not on my pension. I’d have to live on bread and water for three months.
It was the video that was jerky; Kato diesels run very smoothly. Howcum the “pick up a copy” comment at the end, when the video’s only offered to subscribers? Seems kinda silly.
Great looking. Seems as though it ran a little fast, & I didn’t notice if it had sound or not. Will make a fine addition to anyones payout. The payout was equally great to show case this addition to KATO’s line.
You could run two, three or four E9s. Dummies don’t sound as nice as powered and the train will run smoother with more loco’s. Of course if you’re into sound and had 2 dummie B’s you could put put four sound systems and bigger speakers in them! I’m just sayin… I remember these trains. Often they had five and six E’s on the point. I saw several that had one A unit and four or five B units. It’s a great look. Run what you want. It’s your hobby. And it’ll probably be prototypical anyway.
I’m a big fan of the “City” UPs. This is a beautiful set, it is very prototypical to have ABBAs powering. UP was the only RR to buy " E9 Bs" so this is a great way celebrate the sleek look of the entire train. Great layout you left me wanting to see more!
I agree with the comments about speed. The train was realistically traveling to fast for the sharp curves. And yes, slowing it down would give a better view of the consist.
Great Kato set as usual without question the best. However, again another western RR? Come on Kato do the NYC 20th Century Limited.
Beautiful, but those passengers are getting jerked around on those curves. Nice looking train.
I see nothing wrong with pricey locos as long as there are cheaper lines made available as well. Hi-$ equipment will serve to further drive us away from our neighborhood hobby store (and towards on-line discounters) … a result which can never be reversed and which will dry up the hobby for scratch-builders, beginners, chit-chatters, and people who need to see/handle before they buy. And Kalmbach, THANKS FOR THE JAZZ.
Great Train on a Great Layout! Kato has done it again.
very impressive
