Video: Model Railroad Planning 2014 issue preview
I have every issue of MRP and its arrival has become one of the most eagerly awaited model railroad events of the year – right up there with Milwaukee’s Trainfest in the fall.
I’m especially looking forward to the article about staging in the living quarters as I have convinced my wife that I need to that, hopefully there will be some ideas that she finds attractive!
Hi will MR be coming to North Carolina for the gathering of the E8 locomotives in 2014?
Excellent video. The 2014 MRP sounds like a wealth of ideas and inspiration.

MRP 2014 came with a booklet on “Freight yard design and operation” with some interesting articles. It also says there are other photos on the website of additional loading points but I can’t find the link. Has any one located it.
holy cow is it out already?? I need to get to the store!
I have received my copy of Model Railroading Planning 2014 and read it cover to cover. I found many useful ideas in it and the photography was great, as usual. My one question is why the cover photo of Cliff Power’s spectacular HO scale New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal features an undecorated and non-detailed (no handrails or grab irons that I can see) diesel switch engine. I think it detracts markedly from the otherwise unbelievable realism of the scene.
I agree, Gerard. I know this is the “Planning” issue, but this photo is not of a portion of a layout under construction as we sometimes see, but a fully realized and detailed passenger terminal that Cliff Powers obviously spent countless hours of labor getting just right. Even a basic blue-box Athearn switcher from 30 years ago would look better than the white ghost in this photo. On the other hand, according to the photo credits, Cliff is the guy who took the shot! Maybe he didn’t think they’d actually use this one. LOL
An excellent issue of MRP otherwise, with a host of outstanding ideas and concepts. Another great job by Tony Koester and the staff!
Great resource for planning ideas, I picked up a few good things for my layout. I’m curious though, does the MR staff ever operate the entire MR&T as a complete layout and could that be a operating session that is filmed someday?
