This train consist includes some private varnish cars as well as Amtrak cars. The train was heading to Kelso CA which is on the UPRR so the train will be departing the BNSF Transcon just a few short miles up the road

Since the P-32-8 [ 510 ] is running long hood forward does it have dual controls? Amtrak lists those units as special service units and not to be replaced anytime soon.

Here is what someone riding on the train told me what occurred

Was on the Kelso Flyer. We arrived late to the Barstow depot because it took forever to turn the consist on the balloon track in the yard. They wanted the obs car Tioga Pass on the rear for the next day’s return trip. Then the next morning the lead engine went BO so they pulled the train long hood forward w/ 2nd engine to Kelso. They did a runaround move there for the return trip to LA cab forward. If they do this next year sure hope there’s better planning & locomotives!
