Video of Broadway Limited or PCM Big Boys!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABbOsYGH3UE&feature=related not my video!

Actually that was an Athearn Big Boy and an Athearn Challenger.

Enjoyed seeing that! Sound has really added such an enjoyable dimension to this hobby.

Thanks for posting. [C):-)][tup]

I have a bit of a bone to pick with some of the stuff posted, but I don’t know if it is a problem that should be shared by the imager and youtube, or if either one is to blame separately; the lightging is often poor in these homemade videos, and what’s with the ovalized drivers and too-tall engine? Surely that can be fixed, or is it a compatability issue between formats or something? I understand that compression and bandwidth/storage means we aren’t going to be seeing HDTV on youtube in volume for some time, but holy smokes…some of this stuff is eyewatering.

The sound files sound a great deal like QSI soundfiles, although I don’t recall hearing the whistle in this video.

This particular video looks like it was shot in widescreen format, and the software used to edit it did not properly stretch the anamorphoc image into letterbox format.

As for the lighting, I imagine almost a lot of these are shot with nothing but the ambient room light and the automatic exposure settings on the camera. Factor in all the different codecs people use and the relatively poor quality of youtube encoding, and you get a, shall we say, less than optimum viewing experience.

I think the Clinchfield Challenger behind the Big Boy is Lionel’s or Athearn’s HO Scale Challenger.

Thats neat. I may up load some running videos of the the old SP&E…that is once I get me a youtube account…and a device to record it.
