Video of MTH HO K4!

I hate to say it…but that thing looks pretty good. Details look sparse from the view MR gives us, but that sound sure does sound good. And that smoke! (not that I would want smoke but looks pretty cool when puffing) Although, MTH could do a Big Boy for $100.00, and they still wouldn’t get a penny from me. See! They make a great locomotive to suck us into the MTH whirlpool! Lock your doors! Don’t fall for it![:p][:(!]

i happen to have a few O scale Mth and lionel. love them both. love the MTH smoke thought. i have to open the windows when running my 2-8-8-4 GN. love it!

but i probly wont get the HO. looks good though.

I posted a video similar to this (I can’t remember where it came from right off) a little while ago, and while it generated more hate mail (as MTH posts usually do), I still think it’s a neat locomotive. I also saw the model at a local train show here a while back, and thought the details and other items were very nice.

I still stand by the concept that had this locomotive been release by any other company, people would be very excited about it’s release. Unfortunately it wasn’t, and people aren’t. Too bad.

Looks good but where’s the whistle? Or has someone sued MTH so they left it out?

Ken.

I was disappointed that MR did not demonstrate the whistle for us as well. The chugging sounded like ProtoSound 2’s normal excellence that I have come to expect. A very short part of the bell was heard, but not much.

But boy does that thing look good on the MR layout.[tup]

not a big pennsy fan. If they go HO they should make engines decoderless so you can drop your own in.or else keep standard DCC compatibility. If they do something like proprietary controls for certain functions, forget it.
So far they only have one potential engine. There are other manufacturers out there now making some models I am looking for now, and I am in a waiting game to buy them.

Sunset-waiting for their North Shore HO electroliner
PCM-awaiting their N&W 2-8-8-2
Mantua-awaiting the new 2-6-6-2 in N&W, email I got they are using the blueprints so it will be accurate

If MTH wants to do anything why dont they go traction and make some trolleys, or interurbans, like the South Shore/North Shore/ CA&E/CTA

Not a pennsy fan…

I thought it was a good looking loco, too, but I saw virtually no noticeable difference between it and my BLI K4s. Good thing, eh?

I do like PRR because I consider them akin to the Lockheed of the steamer world; did their own thing and did them well. Quirky, but good. Too bad they never used a 4-8-4 configuration…at least I have never seen it if they did.

Nice video of a good looking engine and train. Was it my old eyes or the cigarrette smoke build up on my glasses that made the video seem a little dark to see all the detail?
Where did I get the impression that the K-4 was DC/DCC/DCS compatable? Still a little pricey, maybe the Trix phenomenon will afflict the MTH availability and cost. Will be interesting to see the review and more pictures in MR in the near future.
