Good luck with your new layout. You may want to clear off the table while you work on the layout to avoid breakage. By the way, what does your track plan look like?

[:)]like you saw in the video. the area where i have the cork allready down is going to have the main line, turnout and second turnout for the grain evelavator. the other side might stay a straght track or i might put in a turnout for a second track. the side was going to be farms and prarie.

Wow, it looks like you are off to a good start. It’s nice that you have such a big room, but like Craig said, you might want to get more organized with all that great stuff you received. Maybe then you can even find the door for the grain elevator!

Keep us posted on your progress. It’s always exciting at the beginning.

oh ya , got all the cork track bed down last night, this morning i went to a ace hobby shop located in a ace hardware store and i got the wrong size of ballist, i need n scale ballist and i got HO scale ballist (opps) i did not open the two bags. i was in a hurry because we had a snow storm comeing( a foot of snow). i made a hill for one of the corners of the layout out of the one inch styrofoam sheets.

Here is how i built the first hill.

  1. get one inch thick styrofoam
  2. cut piece of styrofoam to the size you want ( mine was a elongated triangle)
  3. repeat step 2, but a little bit smaller piece of styrofoam
  4. get a yellow styrofoam shaver ( the shaveing part looks like a cheese grater with a 3 inch yellow handel
  5. start shaveing
  6. shave the styrofoam down to the way you want it to look ( make it look natural i did this by shaveing more in some areas and less in others).
  7. repeat step 6 on second piece
  8. glue together and let dry
  9. paint and add scenery
  10. glue on layout.

( just to let you know i am still on step 9) i made a out line of where the river is going to be too this night.
