Video of train hitting truck

Perhaps you have seen this already. But it is still fascinating. I’m just glad I wasn’t the engineer.

Why in God’s name couldn’t he put the thing into gear and drive off the crossing???
A busted gate arm is a whole lot cheaper to fix then a train and a truck.

Increadable. I think it funny as hell. Stupid drivers at their best.
Allan.

AS we say another darwn award winner [:D][:D]

Did that engineer actually put the train into emergency braking or not? Could’nt quite observe that.
By the way, flimsy things truck trailers! No wonder they make such a mess when they flip over on their sides on our motorways here in the Netherlands, happens a lot these days.
greetings,
Marc Immeker

Isn’t that the one that was loaded with strawberries?

Can you say Strawberry jam I would have hated to explain that one to my saftey director.

Easy way to repaint a lead unit tho, right?[:D]

Any ideas why there was such good video coverage of the event? Good closeups from at least two different angles.

Looks like that one is BAAACK.

Whatever happened to that driver who deliberately put it on the track?

Who want a Strawberry slushy?
Allan.

Ouch! How stupid could this idoit be?

Is this the video from a year or so ago? If so and IIRC, someone was filming this location to document a previous accident or gate/redlight timing incident (note the two different video angles) when this one happened.

The cameras could be have been place there for the police to record traffic violations such as running a red, parking a big truck on tracks, etc. A lot of cities/towns to this sort of thing now. Run a red… get your picture in the mail with a ticket a few weeks later.

I have to agree that it appeared that there was plenty of time to move the truck. Heck, it looked like there was enough time for somebody to paint a bullseye on the side of that trailer!

If you listen carefully to the audio portion, you will note the whistle is being sounded continuosly until just before impact. At the last second just before impact the whistle stops. My educated guess is that the train was in emergency long before the impact, and at the last second the engineer either dove to the floor or ran into the engine room.

Usually there would not be sufficient time to determine what the truck is carrying; for all the engineer knew, it could have been a truckload of anvils or transmissions.

yep…first saw this about a year ago…wi***hese thing didn’t hafta happen so often…it’s pretty scary viewed from the cab…

Train? What train? OH, THAT TRAIN!

Oro?

If my memory serves me correctly, I believe that this happened out in or near Oxnard Ca.
Someone was filming this site for proof that the traffic lights switched way too fast. Thus not giving motorists enough time to clear the tracks before the cross traffic started moving.

Todays cabs of the big rigs are pretty sound proof. One of the last rigs that I had ever driven was so air tight that you couldn’t hear a loud locomotive horn all that well. When ever I would be in a city or a busy high traffic area I’d always have a window cracked about half an inch. The difference was night & day!
