I was invited to ride the UPRR # 844 steam train between Hearne TX & Navasota TX last Sunday. Here is the video I took from her arrival in Hearne TX to my departure from the train @ Navasota TX

The sequence of the video is as follows

  1. Arriving at Hearne TX
  2. Parked @ Hearne TX
  3. Being readied for a backward move
  4. Backward move
  5. Before the early morning departure the next day
  6. Departing Hearne TX
  7. On board inside the coach I was riding in
  8. Departing Bryan TX
  9. Departing College Station TX
  10. Traveling thru the Texas country side
  11. Also traveling thru the Texas country side
  12. Arriving Navasota TX where I departed the train

I was able to hop on in Spring and ride into Houston. Some friends of mine got on in Magnolia and 2 of them were lucky enough to have started in Dallas. I had a great time. It’ll be back in Hearne next week. The map on the UP website showing it going straight north from Spring to Palestine is wrong.

When I was at A&M (70-74) SP wore gray and the MP wore blue, with eagles, not yet having disappeared into the UP yellow, but I would have given anything to see steam through the A&M campus!!
