Here is a small video I did following a couple trains on my layout.
I sure feel sorry for you guys who have to give up the garage to have room for a layout! Nice video, well done and well shot. I hate watching videos where the people have no idea what their doing, too quick and too much panning around and the camera bouncing around like a small plane in sever turbulance! I have almost gotten sea-sick watching some! Yours has none of that, good job! Nice trains and scenery, looks like your layout runs well!
When LION bought a video camera (for the Abbey—not for the rail road) The consultant said “Any decent camera was good enough” but put your big money in the tripod (called a dolly in the video world).
Video Cam mounted on train is what it is, it is moving with the train, and any excess motion is that same that you would have standing at the front of an NYCT subway train. You Tube offers to “stablize” the video for you, but that actually adds more distortion than I would like.
I got a cheap (free) video cam, and I was testing that. It has poor quality but It should be ok when I mount it on the tripod. LION will be using the tripod and his good (still) camera for pictures of his layout combining multiple focus images.

Great video and very nice modeling.
Looks great, nice job [Y]. What size is it?
It is in my two car garage. about 20 x 25.
Thanks everyone for the good comments. It is amazing how much extra you need to do on a layout when you get down to train level [:P] Viewing the video there the MRR site seems a little jerky, but it might be my computer at work. Is it smooth/ in HD for everyone?
That’s great - I really like it.
Looks great - very realistic.
One small comment, though. Shouldn’t the local freight (3rd class or extra) have had to wait for the 2nd class freight to pass instead of the other way round?
Other than that, the video was great. Really cool!
