In this video I explain how I’m currently operating my layout, despite it only being about 50 percent built. Enjoy…
Nice for a start. What do you plan to do in the next few years? Attend College, get a job, live with your parents?
Putting that much effort into an immovable object when moves within the next five years seems likely is… well close to what I did anyway.
My layout is now in a 24’ x 27’ room and runs on three levels, but then I havent moved in the last 40 years, and as a monk I have a vow of stability in any case so my moving anywhere is not going to happen. Although I have been told that the whole thing will be thrown out after I die, that is not too much of an immediate concern.
Good Luck with Your layout, and on the rest of your future… Sometimes being 14 again appeals to me, although the idea of that appals others around here.
I like your inspiring line drawings of locomotives and a (presumably) Jordan Spreader above the tracks. A little out of focus (for some reason you focussed on the trains…) but looks like a C Liner…??
I second your advice about using only Peco joiners on a Peco rail regardless of which other brand you’re joining (I have not as yet tried the new Walthers joiners on Peco rail).
I’m using Code 83 and I find that in addition to not fitting tightly enough other joiners are too wide in the bottom and allow the Peco base flange to shift laterally relative to the rail it joins to. You get a kink.
You’ve posted previously about the issue. Looks like the join you mention late in the video as Atlas joiners for Peco to Atlas actually has a vertical bump in the rail. Every car seems to bump up at that joint.
I have found that cutting off just the spike heads on the last tie or two on both flex track and turnouts allows joiners to fit without cutting off the whole tie. That allows you to fit jointers without having to replace the missing ties under the joint.
Thanks for the comments, guys. Lion, I am planning on finishing the layout before I move out, and hopefully it will look good enough (scenery) and if they finally decide to build a garage, they will keep it up. I assembled it in sections so it will be moveable, but I highly doubt I’ll have room for it whenever I’m going for several years.
