VIDEO PLUS?

I have paid the additional $25 for Model Railroader Vides Plus but I am still not able to view the videos including “Cody’s Office”. Up until a month ago I was able to view all videos. Now I can’t view any. Am I doing something wrong or what? Is anyone else having a problem viewing videos? I sent an e-mail to customer service a few days ago but have not had any reply.

I am a subscriber to both MR hard copy and Video plus, I can get to see all the videos.

Just check that you have logged in, maybe log out then in again just to be sure.

Good luck.

Ed,

I’m having a similar problem but I can watch the videos that come with the news letter.

Today for example when going to Video Plus I could watch Monthly Insider but that was all.

The triangular button you click on to start the videos doesn’t show on any of the others.

I reported this several weeks ago and MR responded promptly and suggested several things to do to check out my computer. After adding several add-ons the problem seemed to be solved but was just a coincidence.

Today was the first time I tried V P since my last experience and was surprised that it wasn’t working.

I too have sent another e-mail.

There have been a number of threads summarizing problems with MRVP since the April 1 launch. One of the lengthiest is here: http://cs.trains.com/mrr/f/88/t/216839.aspx

The problems apparently continue. MR invites input but for whatever reason hasn’t been consistent in responding to it. Dana even locked the thread referenced above, which certainly doesn’t encourage subscriber feedback.

I continue to have problems viewing MR videos with Firefox but have had better luck with Safari. They still aren’t seamless, but changing browsers may provide some relief.

I have had no problems with MR Video Plus using Firefox. All videos have been accessible and I’m very satisfied with the product. I do not feel that I am all that computer savvy and if I have problems such as you guys are having, my tendency would be throw up my hands and ask for my money back!

I would go directly to Model Railroader via the email address on the masthead of the magazine for help. I’ve always been able to get help in this manner.

The reason the threads get locked is this isn;t the technical support board for subscription issues - questions about pepr subscriptions to the magazines are also referred to customer support and locked. It’s not some sort of conspiracy.

FWIW, it’s always worked fine for me, and I stick with IE for most things. I did try it in Chrome and it worked fine too. It worked on the initial rollout, except there was no true full scree mode, and it works after the initial changes except now full screen really means full screen - and when blown up that much, there is a distinct difference in quality between the older videos and the new ones.

With issues like this, look at things like browser plugins, AV and malware filters being used, firewalls, and OS patches. Video card drivers too, possibly. I am using Windows 7 SP1, fully patched. AVG Free antivirus, also up to date. No real-time malware scanning other than what AVG does - I periodically scan my system with Malwarebytes to make sure nothing has snuck in (so far, nothing ever has). Windows Firewall is disabled - I have a Linksys router/firewall between my cable modem and my network, so the Windows Firewall would be redundant and more likely to cause problems then prevent them. Third party stuff like Flash is always up to date - whenever they have an update (more frequently than Microsoft has OS patches), I apply them - they are almost always security related. I have an nVidia video card, using the latest drivers.

Still can only watch The Welcome To Video Plus video.

I had a personal reply several weeks ago from Megan but none from my last e-mail.

Today I sent another.

We’ll see what happens.

It seems to me this is about the third or fourth thread in the last few months about problems with Video Plus and now people are posting about MR being somewhat nonresponsive to questions. Now I don’t know about many people actually subscribe/read the forums but it seems MR wouldn’t want any hegative comments about this feature. If this feature is a manner for MR to raise revenue, then, if I am MR, the last thing I would want to see would be negative reviews and posts such as these. If they are being posted here, how many conversations outside of the forums are being held about this issue. It’s called being responsive to your customer.

Something is happening. I know part of the problem is that i have DSL. MR has to realize that everyone doesn’t have high speed. last week i couldn’t even watch Cody’s office in the news letter. It used to stop & load so i would pause it & wait till it was completely loaded, then watch. Last week it wouldn’t load when paused. I can watch TV shows on line with little or no loading in full screen. Cody’s office is less than 1/4 screen. I renewed my subscription partially for the availability of the news letter which is not working for me now. I use Firefox.

I recieved a reply from Megan (MR Support) today about the problem.

She suggested that I delete all cookies, Adobe Flash Player and then reinstall Flash Player. She provided a link for that and asked that I let her know if that worked.

It didn’t and she e-mailed back ansd suggested I try Firefox which I did.

When installing Firefox it said that I had to installf Flash Player which puzzled me because I had done so.

As Gomer Pyle use to say Surprise Surprise Surprise.

I AM NOW ABLE TO WATCH ALL OF VIDEO PLUS

All’s well that ends well.
