Why should video reviews only be available to subscribers?
I already pay Can$7.25 Vs US$5.50 for the “privilage” of purchasing MR in Canada, that’s 32% above the US price yet our Canadian Dollar is worth 90 cents U.S… Canadian price should be around Can$6.05 per issue.
On top of that, a Canadian saves only about a dollar per year on a subscription.
Seems a tad unfair to us loyal purchasers of MR who elect no subscription and pay dearly for it anyway.
A lot of us fall into the same rules for the new forum by not subscribing to MR. I am not sure if you will ever get an answer, but you are aware that they have set the rules and the forum is still free. I enjoy it but they are probably trying to build subscriptions so the MR can exist. It has been a hard time for many magazines and MR used to have many classified ads. Ebay now sells them and the classified ads are almost gone. Even the larger LHS’s do not advertise many pages like they used to do every month. Why, because of Ebay. MR needs the base and is working to improve it.
I buy my copy also and have for nearly forty years, so it makes no difference if they want to have perks for those that are loyal monthly subscribers.
It is not a fair or unfair rule. It is their rule.

I guess it’s like buying season tickets from a football team. In return for the certainty of bona fide seats sold for the entire season, the season-ticket holder receives a few perks from the team such as discounts on food, drink, etc.
I think the free video reviews fall into the perk category for the MR subscribers.
Kalmbach offers the forum for free. It offers other proprietary information via subscription or outright purchase, and the reveiws are meant to be included in a product that is paid for. When you get the magazine, or if you are a current subscriber, you get the reviews online. It is entirely consistent with their other practises. Personally, I think they were rather generous providing them to us for nothing all this time. We had it pretty good. Now we pay.
