Video: Rocky Mountain Express

For those who are subscribed to Amazon Prime, there is an interesting and quite enjoyable video about the building of the Canadian Pacific Railway through the Rocky Mountains of British Columbia between 1881 and 1885 called Rocky Mountain Express. The construction of the project was overseen by engineer, William Cornelius Van Horne.

The route is covered in the 2011 video by CP 2816 - a H1b class 4-6-4 “Hudson”-type locomotive - built by Montreal Locomotive Works in 1930. The views through the mountains is breath-taking and the engineering - both at time of original construction and later revisions and upgrades - was fascinating. There is also a number of great exterior and interior views of CP 2816. More information about CP 2816 can be found here.

It was 47 minutes well-worth spent in my book - Enjoy!

It is an excellent IMAX movie that I have sat through many times.
