Cool dat’

SD70Ace looks fantastic! Would be great to see someone produce the same in HO scale.

Milking the cow for all she’s got.

JASON, can you explain what leads you to make your comment?

The SD’s are still good, even if they aren’t being built by GM anymore.

Just amazing!!!

Unfortunately, I tend to agree with Mr McLucas. I always prefer to run a current GE over a current EMD. In my opinion, they ride better and have a nicer cab layout.

I agree with David’s question; this is 21st century high tech; so how is it the “worst” of anything. A comment like that should be based on something or it is worthless.

Thanks for the informative video.

In response to David Wilson’s question about why I dislike the SD70ACe series. First, there is the aesthetic value, which I admit is purely personal. I don’t think the locomotive looks attractive. It looks like five distinct sections that, when placed next to each other, don’t have any relationship to the next. It’s like the team that designed the cab, radiators, etc., just came up with their own design and stuck them all together on one frame. I also think the body rides too high on the frame as if it’s floating above the underside. If you look at it from the side the frame is clearly visible the whole length of the locomotive. Aesthetics aside, they have many downsides from an operational standpoint. The models CSX have use an air-start system which requires the main to be at a certain level before it can even start itself. We can’t even leave them dead unless they are coupled to another engine which is supplying the air. Secondly the analog gauges have no dimmer, which means when you are going down the road at night all you can see in the front window is the glare from the gauges, which I might add do not agree with the pressures on the computer screen. The engineer’s control stand is placed on a platform that even an average size man has to duck to get into, and don’t think about standing up from the seat without mashing your head against the roof. The cab is without a doubt the loudest of all the new locomotives and I wouldn’t be surprised if it was even louder than some of the old GP’s. They don’t load when you give them throttle until they think about it, which is a real joy if you are trying to do anything else but run flat out on level terrain. I could go on, but I think you get the picture. Don’t get me wrong, I love EMDs, the old ones. I would be perfectly content spending the rest of my career in a GP-40 or SD50. Somewhere along the way EMD lost how to make a great locomotive and seems now only trying to play catch up to GE.

That is awesome.

i know right

The absolute worst locomotive being built today.

I cannot imagine what an encore would look like! She’s top of the line for beauty! I would like seeing her pass by my place each morning! (I can dream, can’t I?) CM

With Cat now at the helm of EMD, I suggest that GE not be too complacent about thier dominance of the locomotive market. Cat (EMD) has a longstanding very high reputation of building well engineered products that have won high marks the world over.

May they succeed!!!

I quess thats the big time, shifting a 200 ton plus loco around like it was indeed an HO model. She is beautiful and a production loco, not “something we are working on”. Bravo to all involved in every aspect of getting it to the show. I agree with C D Vansteinberg,it really would make a great model. I think they could have sold more than a few at the show if it had been on offer. How about it Bachman and your fellow model train makers.

What an enjoyable video, very impressive…Thanks for sharing…

Nicely documented operation - impressively coordated effort. No job too big, but woodencha like to see the bill? Now, if only we could see how the Giza pyramids got built and the resulting PR after they set the final capstone!

im more a steam guy but i gotta admit nice job & i admit my son got me into the sd-70ACES
