Video Step by Step: Weathering an N scale locomotive – part 2

Excellent project and model, thanks Cody!

Great weathering clinic. The items referred to as “MU Hoses” are actually air hoses. The MU Cable is the large multi-connector cable (normally red in color) used for electrical power between locomotives. The smaller air hoses controls the air system between locomotives. Excellent series and hope more to come, maybe on freight cars are next?

Nice job Cody! It was a fun and informative video to watch!

Very nice job. Cody, you nailed it! I don’t usually go this far is weathering my model locos, but it seems a LOT of UP secondary power looks just like this. Great explanation of the techniques. Thanks

Now that looks like a well used locomotive, nice job weathering Cody. Guess we wouldn’t ever see an Amtrak locomotive in that condition huh?

Well done Cody! Excellent job on the UP SD40-2… Thanks for sharing your weathering techniques.

some advice on weathering -adding rust patches on a white loco would be appreciated. Great video

Beautiful work. There is one more thing I like to do. On the fuel tank. around the air tank. I like to put a black wash, or paint the wall back there black. The effect when the model is all back together, makes the air tank above stand out a little better. and look a little more realistic. And the fuel tank more defined. Thanks great video.

Loved the video. It was clear and precise and the step-by-step visualization enabled me to see exactly how it was done. Some props are due to the camerawork. I have used MR’s guide to weathering steam that was published in the print edition of the magazine and I achieved prize-winning results.

You’ve done it again, Cody! I’d love to see how you would tackle fading and weathering Santa Fe blue and yellow motive power.
